On Anonymity & "snail mailing" literature:
Thank you for bringing the Anonymity issue up Beth. Some members of Al-Anon can be very open about their private identities while others have to be more cautious. When I was new, I was more concerned about breaking my husband's identity than my own. I didn't even use my real name to sign into this group because I didn't know who I might know or what to expect from the people I met on-line. The idea of on-line meetings was very new and intimidating to me. I feel comfortable now after 5-6 years here at ASP, but as a newcomer to this group I did not. I would not have felt very safe at that time giving out my name and address and I was not new to Al-Anon. There is a possibly that this could scare away some brand new members.
Maybe we could discuss in a later business meeting, some ideas we all think would be most helpful to our new on-line members. I believe we can inform newcomers well enough by emailing them a good informative welcome letter. that would help them find for themselves, the literature they need. I do not think sending pamphlets or other literature is necessary. If they need additional help they can always reach out to someone in ASP and ask questions.
Emee
