HI All,Agenda #2: What do we do with the monies over and above the prudent reserve?

Since we will never have prior knowledge of an exact amount of funds avaible in our P. Reserve overflow, we really can't come up with a set amount to spend on something from that overflow. To say we will spend 80% OLA / 20% WSO of the money over and above our P. Reserve is ok with me. This would mean that all our other monetary needs (literature, necessary business trips, postage, web-site, etc would come under group expenses) and would have to be budgeted within our means in our yearly budget. If our group needs expand, then that only means there will be less money to contribute to our service arms. This is what I have been trying to express all along and part of what my motion was about. I do not think literature expenses (if we choose to have them) should come from our monies over and above the P. Reserve, if we want to take on a group expense I feel it should come from funds within our budget.

We could also do 70% OLA / 20% WSO and put 10% into a "trip fund" for sending a group member to a fun convention, just as a treat. We do this in our f2f groups, with a drawing. Just a thought!
Dawn, I am surprised that you did not come back and correct Steves' statment to the group that my motion was out of order. It seemed to me that we had two people running this meeting. You have been very quick to correct things as soon as there is a mistake so this is why I asked you to restate my motion. It obviously is not something you feel is worth bothering with...that leaves me powerless. I am using the Serenity Prayer. I'd like to know how are we supposed to know when the discussion is over on item #2 so that we know it IS ok to make a motion? Do we wait until there is no more discussion for 24 hours or just what is the proceedure? When I made my motion I thought there had been a reasonalble bit of discussion on the literature. As I mentioned before I believe we ought to support WSO unconditionally, even if it is only a small amount. The money doesn't go those people "who do nothing for us", the money goes to help Al-Anon as a whole. I found this meeting through WSO. Should we deny other people out there who may need help because we are personally angry at WSO? Seems we need to practice the Principle of Love, above Personalities. There's a story in one of our daily readers about encouraging someone to keep chipping away, a little at a time, at the large bolder blocking their path, because eventually it will crack. Someone mentioned that it is insanity to keep "chipping" at WSO. I have hope that WSO will crack and let us in, I see the internet starting to come more and more into our program and in our literature. On page 48 in the Service Manual, the word INTERNET has been added to the understanding of Tradition 11. That is progression even if it is just a little chip! Emee
