hi all
As the greeting chair I can say that we receive about 10-15 request from our newcomer to asp a month that they are brand new to AL-Anon they can not make it to F2F meetings as there are none in there town. We send out about 150 letters of inquires to our group every month. That is about 5 or so a day. So most that come to us are looking to add meetings to there every day and do make F2F. So the number is small of newbies to Al-Anon.
We are a AL-Anon meeting and if we do choose to send out literature it should be something that the WSO has approved. We can not make up our own letters to send out just because we are online. The cost is something that we are going to take on or not. Also I have asked the WSO to have the newcomers packets online a couple of years ago and was told no that was not something they were willing to do so it would need to be hard copy sent in snail mail. But since we are a Al-Anon meeting it would make sense to have literature . It would just not be out on the table to look at it would be with a trusted member of our group.
Now as to the general meeting we can't go asking questions they are only there for the recovery meeting and that is there choice. Every one received the same letter asking them to join the meeting and they don't want to so we can't just go to the recover meeting with questions, About what they would have wanted. I for One would not want to handle all that email in my box and it would take 3 weeks to get in all the reply's in so it would do us no go now anyway. This is something that if we do take on will need to go through the greeters from this time forward and then the sent to the person who will handle the sending out of packets and I think Joanne said she would do it . I think that we should add sending the literature out to the newbies I know I am adding to my work load but that is something that may help someone to see the light at the end of the tunnel sooner so that is something I think as a group we should do.
Hugs
Tara
