Hi Group, Joanne's offer to pay postage for ther mailing of the NC Packets in lieu of sending a donation to the group is a common request from members who do service. I have offered to pay for things myself and didn't understand at the time, why I was told "No." I was told that whenever anyone does service for the group it is better for the group to have a record all the expenses that position requires and to cover all these expenses from the group's funds, not from the individual doing the service. There are a couple reasons for doing it this way:
1. The next person who takes on this service could feel obligated to do the same and may not be able to afford to do so.

2. When one pays for expenses out of their own pocket, expense records are not accuratley accessed. The position will appear to be more afordable than it really is.
I have done service and made hundreds of copies and bought supplies. I have been temped not to ask for payment for some of these things because some of them seemed so trivial. But... I turn in my recipts anyway and collect the money for those expenses, then I donate part or all of it back to the group when the basket comes around. I used to think it was silly to do it that way, why add another step to the process? After years of service experience I finally see the importance of having the expenses for any service I do, come from the group. I believe one should not pay or appear to be paying for any Al-Anon Service they are doing. Emee
