Biz-Pals,

A little frankness may be just what we do need.
The group conscience of ASP is that a Steering
Committee is responsible for ASP's direction.
Our current group conscience - approved by the
Business Meeting - is that the service positions,
as listed, are our structure.

Three-year service in positions is the norm
within Al-Anon at the officer level. The Service
Manual spells it out pretty clearly, though group
autonomy can set its own guidelines. Also, Trusted
Servants are not the minions of the group, but
make decisions without polling their groups. They
are not directed by a group except that they act
within the group's group conscience.

Currently every ASP Trusted Servant is acting within
ASP's group conscience. So, before we start throwing
darts, can we please just admit that the time has
come (past time) for service positions to rotate.
Kathy has stepped up to the plate and is assuming
the Treasurer position so that I can rotate out.
Dawn has been LA for over three years. It's time for
someone else to stand for the position.

Repeat. It's time for someone to stand for the LA
position. Because nobody is standing doesn't mean
ASP needs changing, it means that there are too many
members who aren't aware of the necessities of running
an online group - that nobody recovers when no meeting
exists.

So please let me pose two questions to get an informed
discussion going so that Dawn, like me, can find a
willing replacement:

? 1: Dawn, what in your opinion would happen if we have
to go a few weeks or a couple of months without a List
Administrator as we get informed and possibly re-think
the position?

? 2: Steve and Dawn, from your experiences as LA, are
there natural breaks in the LA's duties which could be
efficiently jimmied into two or more areas of
responsibility?

Perhaps some info would get this discussion headed
in some direction rather that in circles.

All that said, ASP has worked well for a lot of years.
Changes which could significantly change how the group
is administered ought to be taken only after careful
consideration. Snap judgements and emotional reactions
will only hinder us from making the informed decision
that we are expected to make as trusted servants on the
Business Committee.

Ain't business meetings fun??!!!

Hugs,
Jerry
