Hi folks,
Thank you Jennifer for chairing the business meeting!
Some folks brought up various issues regarding the qualifications for
serving ASP as an officer and member of the standing Steering Committee.
During my tenure as the List Administrator we didn't really have any minimum
qualifications and since all of the officers and members of the Steering
Committee were appointed by me, there didn't seem to be much of a need for
formalized qualifications. Then, when I handed over the full responsibility
for everything to the meeting, we drew up some minimal qualifications but
never got around to reviewing them. Now, with other ideas for
qualifications being brought up, it seems like a good idea to start with
reviewing where we are.
Currently, there is only one written qualification for serving as an officer
of ASP and member of the Steering Committee. Namely, 6 months of membership
in ASP. The same requirement that we have for Daily Chairs & Greeters.
Frankly, this concerns me. Our officers serve in critical roles necessary
to the basic functioning of ASP. In my humble opinion, these positions
require more ASP-related experience than simply 6 months membership in ASP.
There are other issues besides length of membership that are on the agenda
later, so I am ONLY addressing the length of membership in ASP right now.
I suggest that the minimum length of membership in ASP requirement for
officers be changed to 1 year.
Thanks & hugs,
Steve
