Hi folks,
The officer positions are listed on the web site at
http://www.asp-afg.org/ASP/nbm/structure.htm
The greeters job is described best at the Greeter's Instruction page at:
??? I lost track of where it is on the new server. It's at
http://www.serenitysys.com/A_Serenity_Place/Business/Greeter_Instructions.ht
m on my server.
The Daily Chairperson jobs are described at
http://www.asp-afg.org/ASP/Business/daily_chairperson_instructions.htm
The key differences between ASP officers and the other trusted servants is
that each of the ASP officers is fully responsible for that functional area
within ASP and the officers sit on the standing Steering Committee which is
in essence the Board of Trustees for ASP. Much like the Board of Trustees
at WSO which is made up of the Regional Trustees, At-Large Trustees, and
Executive Director, the ASP Steering Committee is responsible for all of the
daily operations that it takes to make ASP work. The Officers/Steering
Committee are responsible for the implementation of Al-Anon and ASP policy.
The Officers are elected by the members of ASP via the Business Meeting.
The Steering Committee handles personal issues when those occasions arise.
The Officers are the face & voice of ASP to WSO, Al-Anon as a whole and the
outside world. The Officers of ASP are the folks that participate with WSO
and the Al-Anon fellowhip in the development of worldwide Al-Anon policy
regarding online meetings. The Officers are responsible for signing the
annual contracts with WSO that are imposed upon online Al-Anon meetings.
The Officers are given the authority and responsibility to enter into
legally binding contracts with outside legal entities to provide the
services and facilities that ASP needs. Since the Steering Committee is a
standing committee, the Officers have a responsibility to be reasonably
available for not just their own corner of ASP, but to their fellow officers
for the duration of their 3-year term.
By comparison, the other trusted servants at ASP (greeters & daily
chairpersons) simply process new members into ASP according to established
guidelines and under the direct guidance of the Greeter Chair, or post the
daily opening according to established guidelines under the guidance of the
Secretary. Greeters & Daily Chairpersons are recruited and appointed by
their respective officer positions.
In other words, the Officers of ASP have the same kinds of responsibilities
(and commensurate authorities) as you'll find among the Officers at the Area
& WSO levels of Al-Anon service. Not dissimilar to an outside corporation.
OTOH, the greeters and daily chairpersons have the minimal responsibilities
very similar to the chairperson of a f2f meeting. This is not intended to
infer that the greeter & daily chairperson jobs are unimportant. In fact,
those jobs are extremely important, however they do not carry anything
remotely like the responsibility that comes with being an Officer at ASP.
And since responsibility and authority are joined at the hip, our Officers
are granted considerable authority to do their jobs.
Hugs,
Steve
