I defer and respect Al-Anon's position on this point. I think this is important for ASP, self-described as an Al-Anon group in every sense of the word; we follow the Twelve Traditions of Al-Anon and conduct business like any other group. But definately a heated topic that I imagine will continue to be evaluated as the population of double winners increases.

Subject: [Businessmtg] ATTN: DUAL MEMBERSHIP
Greetings ASP Business Members,
Thank you Steve for pointing out that essentially the issue of prior service in ASP was covered in our first issue. Part C states that "A member of ASP must have served ASP in some other service capacity for 1 year in addition to any other minimum qualifications for ASP Officers."
Since this issue is essentially resolved, we will move on to the next issue regarding Dual Membership, in which there is not established policy in ASP. The Steering Committee has unanimously agreed on this statement regarding whether Dual Members can serve in an officer posiiton in ASP:
"Members of AA who are members of Al-Anon are not eligible to serve in positions that could lead to the development of Al-Anon policies, as well as those positions which represent an Al-Anon meeting to the greater Al-Anon fellowship, or those positions that are directly responsible for the Al-Anon message carried to the outside world. In applying this long-standing Al-Anon policy to the ASP online meeting, it has been determined that members of AA who are also members of ASP are not eligible to serve as Officers of ASP or on the ASP Steering Committee. "
The Meeting is now open for discussion on this topic.
Hugs,
Jennifer, ASP Secretary
