[Businessmtg] Dual Members

Hi All,

While ASP is modeled after much of the F2F world of traditional Al-Anon,
there are differences. First of all, the WSO hasn't figured out yet
where we fit in the organization. We aren't in an "area" and so don't
participate in district or area meetings and we don't have
representation at the WSO or the WSC conferences, Our group membership
is anywhere from 200 to 300 at any given time, I've never seen a F2F
meeting that large.

The ASP Officers have similar titles to those of a F2F group but there
are additional tasks and functions that are also quite different. First
and foremost, the ASP officers that we are discussing also hold position
on the steering committee. The steering committee members all play a
role in the administrative and policy defining tasks required that keep
ASP running. Much in the way a district, area or the WSO keeps things
running beyond the walls of the individual meeting. Al-Anon does not
allow dual membership beginning at the district level on up (or really
down - Al-Anon has an upside down pyramid structure.)

Speaking from my experience as webmaster for 3+ years, I have stepped in
for our LA when needed, I also have contacted the WSO for information
and guidance and worked with our internet service provider on technical
issues. I am responsible for e-publishing material specific to our
group on the web and to offer links to the WSO site.

A description of each of the officers duties can be found here:

So in my humble opinion and my interpretation of the service manual, I
do not see a place for dual members on the steering committee. I do
welcome dual members to our recovery meetings with open arms and do
believe that their service at the recovery meeting level is important to
everyone's growth.

My two cents..

Hugs,

Anne O
