Hi All,
The link to the OLA site is http://www.ola-is.org/index.htm
It is interesting that a majority of the content was established more
than a decade ago. I can see that some of the pages were updated in May
of this year and another page was updated in September. I have sent an
email to them asking for current information on their structure. There
aren't any treasurer's reports posted since 2009.

G'day -
Great discussion - We still have not really heard exactly what OLA-IS
is or
does.
Most groups that I have belonged to do NOT send funds to service arms
that
do not require them. In my small area our group sent a large part of
our
funds to the District as the costs of sending the District Rep. to the
Assembly were very high. ($700.) as our area is very large
geographically.
A much smaller amount was sent to the Area and World Service Office. In
a
previous Area where I lived we had a set amount that every group
contributed
to the district to cover the District Rep's expenses to attend the Area
World Service Committee Meeting and the Assembly. We also had a set
amount
that was sent to the Area. If the Area required more funds we sent in
more
to the Area. The WSO rec'd any excess. There are no rules on
disbursement
of funds.
On another note if we want to see changes in the Service Manual or the
Policy digest then we have to write out exactly what the changes are and
submit them to the World Service Office for discussion by the Policy
Committee.
Secondly, if we want to have representation at the WSC then we have to
ask
for recognition, and then maybe we have to ask again. . However, what
Area
would the person be representing? ASP is world-wide - The issues that
affect
one area do not affect another. The representatives who attend the
World
Service Conference from other parts of the world attend with no vote.
They
are guests and their way is paid by their own service structure and some
of
them pay their own way to the
World service Conference.
Do not get me wrong as I personally believe that on-line or electronic
Al-Anon is one of the best tools available to carry the Al-Anon message
of
hope to all parts of the world. Electronic Meetings can reach people
where
there are no existing members. The World Service Conference has been
discussing the Conference Structure for many years andI I believe that
we
have to regularly have our voice heard. The voice of on-line Al-Anon is
heard in these discussions. There are presently approx. 80 electronic
Al-Anon meetings registered with the World Service Office and they are
in
many different languages.
