Jerry, well said.
I think that some emails sound as though the writer has not been to
face-to-face meetings and is truly brand new to the program. If that's the
case, we want to do some sort of newcomer's meeting, right?
I wonder if there would be a benefit to a blurb about 'How and what to
share' in the email that welcomes new members. A sort-of
this-is-how-you-do-it. I have also wondered if the writer had knowledge of
the literature being quoted. I don't know any other way to help them out
other than to let them know about how and where to get Al-Anon literature.
I know that when I was new to this group, I felt it was fine to share
off-topic because I saw a lot of it. Maybe they are unaware. I absolutely
agree that frequent flyers need a word from the wise.
Also, in the Archives for this meeting you can search by thread, by month.
Maybe this could be promoted for specific problems? Such as Detachment or
a Step number. That might be a useful tool also.
