To be honest, I still don't understand how the membership site works. When I first joined ASP I was such an emotional wreck that reading the fine print wasn't my first priority - getting help was. The whole concept of sharing my feelings online was so foreign to me that if I would have taken the time to really go over all the directions with a fine toothed comb I would have never joined. It's like someone telling you how to make bread when you've never seen flour or an oven before - until I dove in I had no point of reference - ASP is unlike anything I had ever experienced before. It wasn't because I was lazy. To me the site is pretty complicated still. Even when the LA sends out links to the newsletter, I can't even figure out how to read them.
I really like the idea of rewording a welcoming letter so that it is very basic. Also, I like the idea of creating an email list like the phone list at a F2F. Linda had a point, that forcing a sponsor on someone is not good, but if they had the list available they could contact someone for personal assistance. I think Jane's forum idea is amazing - just don't understand how it would work.
