I make a motions that:

"The Business Committee Chair may call for a straw poll during the
discussion of an Agenda Item, but before a motion is formed, in order to
collect committee attendees' positions and input which may help form a
motion that is acceptable to a substantial majority."

I'm out at my f2f home group until 10:00 EDT if there's any need to address
edits.
