[Businessmtg] Steering Committee, Member at Large

ASP's Steering Committee spends time discussing ideas or problems in the background so the topic meeting can keep to focusing on our recovery. Without SC Members at Large the SC doesn't get much input from the general membership, relying only on our elected officers.

In my past six-month term we've talked about a number of topics. In these cases I've had to put my Al-Anon thinking cap on and contribute my experience to the ongoing discussions. The short term length assures many members will get the opportunity to serve and bring their unique experiences to the mix.

Discussions sometime touch a nerve or two so there is also an opportunity to learn to listen and compromise while also working to help the ASP family work smoothly - by practicing our principles in all our affairs.

To be honest I spent more time thinking about how our principles apply to situations than in the actual discussion exchanges. Principles are sort of like muscles: they need exercising to stay limber. Serving six months on the Steering Committee can stretch your recovery into new realms while also helping the group.
