[Businessmtg] OT posts

Hi everyone.

When I first came to Al-Anon, over 4 years ago, ASP was my only lifeline. I made a few OT posts, and received the much needed ESH. The best ESH I received was when the longtimers asked me if I had a sponsor, and encouraged me to get one. When I did find a sponsor here at ASP and later f2f, I was able to talk to her and my OT posts stopped. Finding that sponsor and a f2f group was the key that I needed.

I do not believe that a separate place for OT posts will be in our benefit. This list can be confusing and a separate address would be even more so. Newcomers NEED to be able to talk. They NEED to have a safe place to ask questions. They also NEED our ESH, and to be encouraged to get a sponsor as soon as possible.

I do believe OT posts should be very limited-very limited. That is not always the case. When one member post too many OT shares, a long timer could remind the newcomer that it is not appropriate. This person could also be encouraged to find a sponsor, find a face-to-face group, or reach out to members individually.

If a member is bothered by the OT post, here she can simply delete them since they are clearly listed with OT and the topic line. As the opening of our meeting suggests, take with you like and leave the rest.

In essence, I do not support the idea of a separate list for OT shares, or after the meeting discussions. I think that this would be detrimental to ASP and confusing to newcomers.

Thanks for letting me share on this topic!
-Debbie
