I agree that there is a huge amount of information on the Newcomer's page.  In fact, I believe it does answer most questions.  The problem is that most newcomers are overwhelmed already and unable to process ALL the information on that page.  Perhaps just reformatting it so that it can be taken in small chunks at a time.  Something as simple as changing fonts or giving additional space between lines can help.
