I appreciate Kristen's searching out policy and procedure for me. However,
she did not fully quote the process, which is:
"The Business Meeting is using the Knowledge Based Decision Making (KBDM)
process on a trial basis. This means that motions are developed by
consensus after thorough discussion. If there is no consensus, then no
motion is to be made. * If this process doesn’t appear to be working
properly, the Chairperson may switch the Business Meeting to the
traditional style based loosely on Roberts Rules of Order. In that
instance, motions will be made from the floor and seconded with discussion
following.*" (emphasis mine)
I didn't specifically state it, because I assumed (my bad) that people
would see that without a majority we couldn't move forward, and that we
needed to put it aside. I am not aware of any "tabling" in KBDM, and the
implication was to switch it over to traditional style so that we do not
lose sight of something that has the potential to impact our group finances
significantly.
The KBDM is not working in this particular case, and so I will specifically
state that I am switching this meeting, for this item, to traditional
style. We will resume KBDM with the next agenda item.
The fact is, not a single person came forward and said that they felt we
need to reinstate the program. That means we need to do something about it
- get rid of it, or pass it off, or consider it in the future. In good
conscience I can't see that letting it sit around does the group any good,
and in fact could do harm financially should someone insist we hold to our
former group conscience and pay for the packets.
So...that being said...
I would like to entertain a motion to table this issue until the next
business meeting.
