I just love the fact that there are several vocal members of this group who
talk out of both sides of their mouths.
Steve has made it his job to criticize everything I do, although the
spectacular play by play he presented this week is a new level of low.
Now Jerry is putting words into my mouth and drawing conclusions of what I
will do based on his speculations.
Both of these folks then talk about unity and consensus.
Let me just state for the record:
My intention was never try to hurry the decision. What I said was that
there was no consensus, and even that was argued. Let me tell you,
deferring a matter based on input does not equal killing a program!!!!
Seems to me that you can't budge a no-consensus issue without more
information and there was none to be had; hence I wanted to move to table
this. Couldn't table it under KBDM, so I went to Robert's. I wasn't trying
to get rid of it. I wasn't trying to sneak something by. I simply wanted to
make it possible for people to think about it, maybe get some input from
others, and then come back to the issue. I made a call, based on what I saw
for the good of the group.
It is very easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize. Respectful questions
go much further than accusations. But there is something about this
business meeting and steering committee that causes some people to leave
civility at the door.
Enough.
I am tired of having my stomach tied in knots every time I open my email.
I am tired of being criticized every time I do something.
I am tired of having my motivations *and character* called into question.
You know what? I got enough of this type of behavior dealing with the
alcoholics.
I refuse to accept crazy people's definitions of me.
I apologize to all of you in this business meeting who are trying to work
your programs to the best of your ability; I believe this is essential to
the continuity of Al-anon. I thank all of you who have been doing your best
to understand and place principles about personalities. I thank all of you
who have reached out in support.
How important is it? Well, my serenity comes first, and subjecting myself
to this is not conducive to my serenity.
Principles above personalities. But MY principles say I cannot remain in a
situation where I am being abused.
This is service position. It shouldn't be penance.
I am leaving this dysfunctional steering committee and business meeting.
Effective immediately, I hereby resign as Secretary of ASP.
