Hi all,

I agree wholeheartedly with Claudia's share. I have been a member of ASP
since around 2010 as well. ASP has been a lifeline for me on many occasions.

I would love for the Business Meeting process to be simplified. There are
no rules in Al-Anon, only suggestions. The Business Meeting and the
Steering Committee seem encumbered and stifled by rules that in my mind are
overly complicated and counter-productive.

Claudia said: " I hope that the adversarial tone of this meeting is the
exception rather than the norm."

In my experience, it is not the "norm" in the sense that all Business
Meetings I have attended have not seen the chair criticized like she was in
this meeting, but it is also not the first time I have seen it happen. I
was really impressed with the way Laura took to her role as Secretary and
held Business Meetings every other month. I had never seen that in all my
years in ASP, but if other Secretaries received the same treatment, I can
understand why Business Meetings were not held more frequently.

I would also like to add that I have been on the Steering Committee for
over 2 1/2 years now. There is a huge disconnect between the main meeting
and the Steering Committee. There has often been an adversarial tone in our
discussions (Apryl alluded to this when she resigned from the SC in this
meeting) and I have been tempted many times to quit for that reason. I hope
that we eventually root out the problems that have enabled that to be the
case, but I really don't know if that will ever happen. I don't feel the
same about ASP as I felt 2 years ago. I don't feel as safe when I share.
And that's a shame.

Jane
