[Businessmtg] Steering Committee Clarification

In response to Linda, we don't have formal meetings in the SC in the sense
that there is no date or time, no definitive beginning and end. When
someone has something to discuss, s/he emails the other members. That is my
understanding of a Steering Committee "meeting."

Steve asked about whether or not decision equaled "group conscience," which
highlights my earlier observation about how process has taken precedence
over people, especially on the SC. We bring things to the SC and get
responses from some, but seldom all, of the members. We are then left to
assume that those who didn't respond either agreed with what was decided or
just didn't see the emails. We have only had one actual vote in my
experience in the SC and even that (for the website) was called into
question. I always assumed that if substantial agreement seemed to exist on
the SC, this sufficed as a group conscience... But perhaps others disagree.

This is not a legal proceeding. This is a 12-Step support group. I would
love to see all of us keep that in mind, but all I can do is to practice
that myself to the best of my ability.
