Good morning folks,
I believe this is a great request, a very important one and one that
I wish I had thought of asking before I put my name in the hat for my
position and I am happy to oblige.
My introduction to service got off to a rocky start. Although I had
served as a one year greeter to meet the criteria of the one year of
service, I have not had any other service experience. I was not
familiar with the SC processes, time obligations and other than what I
have read in our founding statements, I hadn't considered that there
were obligations to the group that reached beyond the "Treasurer"
position. The job description of Treasurer was not clear and I had no
idea about the requirements. Although, my experience as a business
owner qualifies me for the position, when I started I felt as though I
had gotten in way over my head. My anonymity is very important to me
and I felt that it was at risk of being compromised. Having said that,
we have found a way to work around most of the roadblocks and I look
forward to going forward and fulfilling my obligation of service.
When I volunteered for the position as with any commitments I make I
do so with intentions of doing the best job I can. What I have found is
that by "listening" I am learning. I don't contribute a whole lot to
the conversation because I came in on much of what is the "past" where I
was not a part or involved and I am not one to speak if I don't believe
what I have to say is important.
It is my sincere hope that when the SC positions are filled we will
put aside what was and go on. It is my hope that we have a group that
can work together, put principles above personalities and continue to
offer an online Al-Anon meeting. There are many great people in this
meeting, I hope that some of you great people will put your names in the
hat and lets get ASP back on track! I don't mean to sound like a
cheerleader yet we need to have some people that can work together
towards a common goal. Having ASP in my life has helped me find
serenity, and I hope it can continue to offer the same to others.
I would like to personally like to thank both Sandie and Jane for
their service. Both of these trusted servants have given from their
heart and continue to do so! Both were always very willing to help me
understand the expectations of service and answer any questions I had.
They both have done a job that has gone above and beyond! Thank you
Sandie and Jane!
Respectfully,
Jennifer
