[Businessmtg] Resume Questions

Hi Barbara,

The ASP group conscience states that 1 year of service to ASP is required
to serve as an officer.

Contrary to popular opinion, most of our group consciences and policies are
written to avoid micromanaging. Hence, our group conscience doesn't say
service in Position A, B, or C qualifies but service in Position D does not.
Service is service. So anyone having the requisite time serving ASP would
meet our service requirement.

After observing this process for over 20 years, I've noticed that a member
serving on a special committee, such as our Newcomer Committee, is likely to
become far more exposed to discussion ASP policies & procedures than either
a Greeter or Daily Chair would in their service.

The bottom line is that Kristen has not only served ASP in roles that
satisfy the group conscience, it is my personal opinion that she has
benefited from more opportunities to grow and learn about ASP structure,
policies and procedures on the Newcomer Committee than a member serving as a
Greeter or Daily Chair. In other words, I would not discount service on a
committee, especially a committee that has spent the kind of quality time
that the Newcomers Committee has spent on these issues.

Hopefully, that clears the waters on this issue.

Hugs,
Steve

(The following is a email from Steve to the Business Meeting in March 2017

The prerequisite for service in ASP as an officer (a member of the Steering
Committee) that you are asking about is: "Service Positions held in
Al-Anon: A member of ASP must have served ASP in some other service capacity
for 1 year in addition to any other minimum qualifications for ASP
Officers." In other words, in addition to other requirements such as one
year's minimum membership in ASP and not a member of AA, ASP requires that
officers have served ASP in some other service capacity prior to serving as
an officer. This is to ensure that our officers have at least a minimal
understanding of ASP's structure, policies and procedures before they hold a
major leadership position. I hope that answers yours question so that you
can answer Carolina's question accurately. Love and SERENITY, Steve

I'm sorry to be such a turnip here but that paragraph is not at all clear
(to me) as to the service positions that count toward fulfilling the 'one
year requirement for service at ASP'. If anything, it muddles it even more.

Thanks, Sandie, for trying.

BJ
