Biz-Pals,
Under Knowledge Based Decision Making (KBDM) motions are formed after all information has been made available and clear to everyone, everyone has become fully informed, a lengthy discussion of the topic has been had, all questions are answered, and, most importantly, a consensus has been formed on at least some portion of the topic of discussion.
Any motion formed is then worded to cover ONLY those areas of consensus agreement.
This motion is worded to accept all areas of Jane's good work, not just those portions where a consensus could be had.
As some have pointed out, the differences between old and new are difficult to cull out making it exceedingly difficult to make informed decisions.
Others have spoken to the process being forced or hurried.
I, generally, find Jane's work laudable. There are areas of it, though, where further discussions are necessary in order to address those areas where meaningful changes to ASP have been perceived. This calls for a review of any and all objections on a point-by-point basis.
Are the original documents still available? If so, publish them here in downloadable form side-by-side with Jane's current proposal. Members, either here, in the Steering Committee, or in a special committee similar to the current Newcomer Committee, could spend whatever time necessary to come up with a result which would end in Unity, not continued rancor.
Unity.
The way that's now being suggested, forcing a motion to the floor without due deliberation of its full content simply because of an arbitrary deadline - that being a near demand that the process be finished before the end of Jane's term as has been stated - makes no Al-Anon sense.
"By trying to force solutions we become irritable..."
That this topic has produced continuous irritability shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
