Hi folks,
My last note described several major problems with the motion on the floor.
Previously, I described several changes in the "new" website that
effectively changed ASP policy.
Changes were made that consolidated authority in the List Administrator,
resulting in the List Administrator having more authority than was given by
ASP.
Changes were made that authorized the Chair and/or List Administrator to
make additions to the agenda after the Business Meeting started in spite of
clear policy to the contrary.
Changes were made that authorized the Chair and/or List Administrator to add
new members to the Business Meeting after the Business Meeting started in
spite of clear policy to the contrary.
Changes were made to the core Founding Statement and Policies page that
altered the trusted servant positions.
These are serious changes that were not just typos, but changes that a List
Administrator used to control, assume authority and direct.
If we "accept" the current website as posted, we are also accepting those
changes and all of the consequences.
The line in the sand.
A friend of mine in the program likes to say . . .
"Where do you draw the line? Where the line is."
The line in the sand is the old website and its group conscience approved
content.
THAT is where the line is. Or at least where it should be. If you disagree,
please tell us which Al-Anon Tradition supports that.
My suggested amendment to the motion:
Replace "The ASP website, as currently posted, be temporarily accepted"
With "The 'old' ASP group conscience approved web content be accepted"
I believe that this amendment would fix what I see as a fatal flaw in the
motion. This amendment would restore the CONTENT of the "old" group
conscience approved web content to the ASP website, which rightfully so.
Please note that the amendment only refers to the content of the website.
The CONTENT of the "old" website would be restored to the DESIGN of Jane's.
There would still be the same opportunities for review and changes in the
future as in Jane's motion. The only difference is where we draw the line in
the sand.
Hugs,
Steve
