Hi Beverly,
Actually, Linda's "Linda word" does exist in Al-Anon, though she misspelled
it. :-)
I'm not sure what Linda's experience with "acclamation" is but I'll share
mine & what I've seen at ASP.
The gist of it is that instead of voting "for" or "against" a member to
serve, a motion is made to elect the member by acclamation. That means
unanimously.
It depends on how the group works, but let's say that a f2f group has a
policy of secret ballots when voting for trusted servants. A process that
takes time, etc. But if there is only one member available for the position,
and it seems that everyone is for them serving, then the Chair might ask for
a motion to elect by acclamation which might be passed with a show of hands.
Everyone says "Aye" and poof you've got a new trusted servant in seconds.
FWIW, my home f2f group did that last week to elect a new GR. The business
meeting took less than 30 seconds, not counting the Serenity Prayer before
and after the business meeting. And no, it was not my idea, but, I did say
"Aye". :-)
Is it policy or procedure at ASP?
A. Policy? No.
B. Procedure? As in have we done this before? Yes, I do remember doing it
once.
C. Could it be done again? Yes. We have nothing that prohibits it.
D. Does it always work or make sense? No. See, and acclamation requires a
unanimous vote. So, if someone made a motion at ASP to elect The Tooth Fairy
by acclamation and the motion did not pass 100%, then the Tooth Fairy didn't
get elected, could have her feelings hurt, and we'd still need someone for
the position.
E. Would it make a difference in ASP? No. Unlike a f2f meeting, any voting
takes 7 days so there is no Speedy Gonzales advantage to it. So, while I
personally like the idea in some situations, it doesn't change anything at
ASP.
Hugs,
Steve

Subject: [Businessmtg] Acclaimation?
Hi Linda. I would like to know what acclaimation is and if it is part of
ASP policy and procedure?
Thank you for your consideration.
Peace and hugs,
Beverly
