Thanks Karen.
Excellent points.
The problem is that the content on this page has been sourced from various places over the years. Some of it was cut and pasted from our previous HTML website into the page, and some was drafted in WordPress on the page. WordPress doesn’t always play nice with others, so cutting and pasting can result in some interesting effects. Also, it’s not nearly as easy to control fonts in WordPress as it is in our HTML Editor that works more like MS Word. As a result, fixing fonts for a consistent look means going into the “code” under the hood of the page and playing with the hard coding.
On to the details of what Karen found:
1. KEY:
· Motion PASSED : Group Conscience "Navy font"
· Motion FAILED : NO Group Conscience “Light Grey font”
You have the words light grey in the correct color, but the words Navy font should then be in the navy font.
The words "Light Grey font" are in a different typeface than the others. It looks like your intent that the words of the motion be in that font so the words "Navy font" should be in that typeface too.
Steve: Correct. This carries over from the original website. The intent was to show failed motions, but to do so in a subdued font to help members notice that the motion didn’t pass.
I fixed the font color in the key.
2. Each individual set # 1 - 16.
There is a decorative border it looks like at the top of each Motion. But at the bottom of Motion # 16 I have the results of Motion #15 before the decoration. Doesn't that go with Motion #15? And # 15 at the bottom has the same for #14. Then #14 and beyond just have Passed or Failed. Either the numbering is incorrect for #16 and #15 or the information is in the wrong place on each of those.
Steve: The problem is that the text at the end of Motion #16 referred to it as Motion #15. Ditto for #15/14. This is the result of a motion missing from the list. I corrected the numbers of the motions in the titles, but missed fixing the numbers in the Pass/Fail summary. Good call! Fixed.
3. Use of quotes
#16- #14, #11 - #1 use quotes around the motion. #13, 12 do not. #13 and #12 need quotes.
Steve: Fixed
4. Decorative border at the bottom
This border does not have any motion below it and does not give the page consistency. If you'd like to separate out the page updated date a different style of separator should be used. Even a straight line. It would not be a bad idea to have "Page Updated" instead of just "Updated" on these entries if possible.
Steve: I replaced the border with a plain line at the bottom of the page.
Steve: The “Updated . . .” now reads “Page updated . . .” I’ll get to this fix on the other pages gradually.
5. Typography
Motion #5 has an inconsistent text color and typeface in "I'll move that:
Steve: Don’t you mean #9?
If so, I think the intention was to separate the text of the “I’ll move that:” from the text of the motion. I think the best fix is to remove the unnecessary “I’ll move that:
And simply leave the body of the motion in quotation marks.
Consider it fixed? Please verify and let me know if you agree.
#12 the item 2 is bold at the end and looks to have an extra enter in between "ask" and "members of other".
I notice the ship image is in several places on the site. Is this one of her vacation pictures? I suggest if it is a personal image it be removed. Particularly in this page it's not adding to the understanding of the content.
Steve: There are no extra line breaks there. WordPress was originally designed for posting blogs, so it tends to create narrow pages and some interesting line breaks.
Steve: The photos of SERENITY are photos of my boat which has been a part of the ASP website since the beginning of ASP.
The bay scene photos that Jane added to the site were removed by Jane before she left. The media folder still contains copies of Jane’s photos, but I did not restore them because they were her personal images from a vacation of hers, and I believe she removed them for her own personal reasons, which I respect.
Hugs,
Steve
