Biz-Pals,
It's been quite a month. Much of the work which was in front of ASP four months ago has started to form into solutions. Oh, there's still a good bit to do, but we're progressing.
As ASP continues to move forward it's impossible to do so without openly acknowledging some confusions which may linger about our Policies and Practices. Over the last two or so years impactful changes were made to our website content without clear group conscience approvals. Since we have members on this committee whose entire ASP service experience falls under these altered policies and practices, it's understandable that some confusion remains. However, the website has been restored to its prior state so that problem should now be resolved.
ASP has a process for addressing various concerns and new topics as they come up. Group members submit their ideas and concerns to any member of the Steering Committee (SC) who then carries them to the full SC. Those which don't require a Business Meeting (BM) group conscience may be handled there. Others join the lists of current and old business. The SC then has the responsibility to set topic priorities for the ASP Business Meetings in the form of an agendas. As history demonstrates, only one or two topics can be effectively addressed in one month's time.
This month we do have urgent business: the election of a Greeter Chair and our website resolution. ASP's Policies for elections are specific and time consuming to ensure that all members can participate, and the website discussion will be taking a chunk out of our BM's over the next several meetings - again by policy on matters which affect the entire membership. So, many suggested topics await a time when we can turn BM attentions to them. A lesson in patience.
Meanwhile the Steering Committee has been dealing with matters which needed our attention while individual committee members also had to perform the particulars of their assigned positions. Let me tell you it's been a busy, busy month for all of us. No doubt many hundreds of hours have been voluntarily spent over the past four to five weeks.
Accomplished:
~ 7th Tradition Register ready for the website,
~ determined which web content had the most recent group conscience approval,
~ transferred approved web content into the new web design,
~ set the March BM agenda, and
~ updated software.
Discussed or in the works:
~ the beginnings of outlines of trusted servant duties,
~ ASP standard message footer content / additions,
~ assessing problems with the January Business Meeting,
~ consequences of Motion #16's defeat,
~ ASP's greeter process,
~ out-of-order business, and
~ reviewing trusted servant performance of duties.
Suggested for future SC consideration:
~ polling period questions
~ where group inventory fits,
~ alternatives to current BM schedule, and
~ ASP app rather than using email.
Additionally, an inordinate amount of time has been spent by the SC and List Administrator dealing with problems presented by a self-described "unhappy camper".
The Steering Committee and I welcome each one of you to this March ASP Business Meeting. If Al-Anon business meetings are unfamiliar to you, consider getting a service sponsor; it will add to your service experience. And, please, enjoy the meeting.
Together We Can Make It.
In service,
Jerry H.,
Steering Committee Chair
