Hi Karen,
1. The FAQ page. The FAQ page doesn't translate well from HTML to WordPress's blog-style format. This is one of those pages that I think we'd be better off leaving in the HTML format. Please refer to the original FAQ page on my site at http://www.serenitysys.com/A_Serenity_Place/Business/FAQ.htm to compare with the same content pasted into WordPress at http://asp-afg.org/members/faq/.
I used the original version to look at the duplicate question issue you mentioned. I'm sure that you are right. The FAQ was designed to do two different things:
A. Answer questions that members might have about ASP in particular or Al-Anon in general. This is a good section to see where we recognized that ASP was different from face-to-face Al-Anon, and to describe those differences, where they existed.
B. A glossary for members that our members could refer to when they didn't understand the jargon being used in the meeting. Al-Anon is chock full of words with special meaning, as well as service-related acronyms. And I'm not even talking about the multitude of acronyms that we see in ASP now. I think we have a special page for that.
FWIW, I am not married to an "A". I am married to an alcoholic. Even with 35+ years of sobriety, I can call her a drunk and that's OK. But, if I called her an "A" there'd be hell to pay. And I wouldn't blame her. Nor is she a "Q". She's a real life person and deserves more than an abbreviation when I mention her, even if her name is "CJ". :-)
OK, back on topic. I'm sure there are some duplicates on the FAQ page. I don't remember if that was intentional or not; it's been almost 22 years since I wrote that page. What was intentional, was to give our members two ways to approach this. They could be looking to answer a question about how something worked or how to do something, OR they could be looking for the meaning of a word or phrase.
I'd much rather have duplicates than have someone struggle to find what they are looking for.
2. The long-dead email link to Denise has been removed from the Business Meeting Description page. http://asp-afg.org/members/business_meeting_description/
3. The link to the member instructions page that is appended to every share has been corrected. Thanks. FYI, that is done in the Mailman app.
4. The Greeter Training Document created in May 2017 does look good and does look very professional. The glitch is that it is based on a greeter process that is contrary to the greeter process adopted by ASP on the website. That is an issue that I’m certain will be addressed shortly.
There are some that feel that we should move forward and approve the content of the website as it was circa 2014 (before it was heavily altered in 2015-2017) and THEN deal with pages that the membership feels need fixin'. OTOH, there are some that feel that we maybe we can accomplish some of that now. Much to my dismay, I’m not in charge, however I should point out that if we choose to finish the proofreading and minor fixes now and approve the site as it is currently, we’ll be able to move on with other things that need to be done and we’ll be able to address changes to the website in due time. The alternative may likely be to stuck in wordsmithing discussions that can continue ad nauseam. FWIW, it has been our practice at ASP for decades for the membership to make general recommendations on changes, then let the Steering Committee handle the wordsmithing, and then the SC brings a recommended draft to the membership for approval. Naturally, the BM can make edits and/or send the draft back for revisions.
Hugs,
Steve

Morning BM ASPers....
hi steve.....
thank you steve for all the hard work you have put in to get the web page functioning again. i looked at this and found 2 items going on. other than that, there are some broken links that i found. most already have a notation telling us its broken.
1. in looking at the faq page, i found several duplicate questions that are present both at the top half of the page and at the bottom half of the page. 2. in looking at the business meeting page i found a link to denise as la. it does not work and i am wondering if this is from the original web site. 3. on the group email link that is found at the bottom of the daily meeting shares, there is a broken link. it is for the asp instructions link.
4. the greeter training manual is setting on my desktop and i have not had a chance to finish going through it. so far it looks really good.
other than that it flows much better and things are easier to find.
thanks for reading.
hugggsss,
karen c
