Steering Committee/List Administrator Report
to the Business Meeting
May 1, 2018
Evening, all,
The last two months since our March meeting have been the busiest I
can recall for ASP's Steering Committee members. We had a new greeter
rotation organized as Anne O. took up the Greeter Chair service. Thank
you former Greeters. We've kicked off a simpler process for newcomers to
join ASP; thank you Steve and Anne. Our Treasurer expressed a need to
step down from ASP service, work continues on corrections to our
website, and many more topics than usual have arisen or been suggested
for Business Meeting consideration - a good thing - requiring the
Steering Committee to prioritize their places on the agenda of this
month's meeting. We have old business: the website and our progress on
preparing for filing for non-profit status. We have vacant service
positions to fill. And we have no fewer than ten (10) other topics
suggested by members and trusted servants.
It was readily apparent that we couldn't effectively address every
possible topic in one Business Meeting. I therefore asked all Steering
Committee members to make a priority list of potential topics from those
suggested as each felt most important to ASP. The responses I received
were in large part uniform though not identical. I chose to rate these
lists with numerical values (5,4,3,2,&1) and let the math point out our
consensus of priorities. Because there could be time for a 4th topic
during this month's meeting depending on how the other topics go I
requested a second round of priority lists for the top four (4) choices
from those topics which had received ratings in the first round.
The results were clear:
1. Election of a new Treasurer
2. Election of a Webmaster
3. Continuation and possible conclusion of Website corrections, and
4. An update on the state of non-profit filing and by-laws with a Q&A
There are a few ASP members who would very much like to do a Group
Inventory. If we are able to make good headway on this month's agenda
July's agenda could include working on a way to get the entire ASP
membership involved in this worthwhile process, possibly setting aside
topic meeting time so every member could participate in it. Other
suggested topics which were included (in no special order) Archiving
Personal Shares - yes/no?, Defining Service Positions, Acronyms, FAQ's,
Glossary of terms, Newcomer page, Archiving Business Meeting Records,
and Efficient Business Communications.
I look forward to continuing making progress on topics of interest
and importance to ASP members in this and future Business Meetings.
Success will entail an odd combination of participation and patience as
we work through the matters before us. And, as usual, Together We Can
Make It.
Thank you for being a part of ASP's Business Meeting.
In service,
Jerry H.
