Hello!
Question from Kristen Z:
The elected webmaster is also a member of the steering committee. It has
been discussed in the steering committee that clarifying the expectations
for trusted servant position vacancies at ASP would be of value.
In addition to the webmaster position’s role/duty, do you understand the
role/duty of being a steering committee member?
My answer:
I did review the information on the website regarding the steering committee commitment.
Back where I used to live, I was a member of an Alano Club - a building that had meeting rooms, a rec room, a snack counter and outdoor space - all for 12 step meetings. Well - it was much more than a building - it was a community. The different 12 step groups all took care of themselves with treasurers and GRs and that sort of thing. But the Club also had a - I think yearly or every 2 years - rotating set of ‘ officers’ for lack of a better word - that made sure the property taxes were paid and that the outdoor maintenance was taken care of, and that there were snacks available for purchase at the snack counter.. all of the ‘stuff’ that comes with having a building in a city and groups using the building. To me, in some ways, the Steering Committee functions like those officers of the Alano Club - making sure that the infrastructure is available so the recovery meeting can continue.
However, I feel like the Steering Committee has a second role as well and that is a bit more ASP specific. To me, this is still ‘infrastructure’ in a way - but more of the group infrastructure rather than ‘meeting’ infrastructure. We have to have the space ready for the recovery meeting (meeting infrastructure) , and we also have to have some roles and responsibility definition so that the meetings can function and that people volunteer to lead meetings and all of that ‘stuff’ that makes a meeting, ‘a meeting’.
That’s my understanding of the Steering Committee right now - please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
