The subject of non-profit, multiple treasurers has come up. Very good
thinking. As you may be aware ASP has passed a motion which is now being
worked on (delayed by the website hubbub) which will make ASP a legit
non-profit. Multiple signatures will be a part of the deal as would a
permanent bank account. By-Laws will spell the details. Because a
non-profit status is a legal matter, not a matter of our Traditions, much
of the content will be governed by the laws of the State in which it's
formed. Meanwhile we're still operating as we were when ASP was first
formed - as if we were a small F2F meeting. We put our trust in one
individual to handle all our funds. It is my hope that we can complete this
move to non-profit standing in relatively short order for many good reasons
- not the least of which is a permanent bank account which will not change
with changes of ASP officers and the assurances that come from greater
financial security.

Jerry, 12 Step groups as well as a multitude of other non-profits all over
the world do not need a special by-law to give a meeting credit as a
"legal" non-profit. All you usually need is a signed letter by the
chair/president or whatever your official is called that the treasurer can
give to the bank and that the new treasurer signs. Possibly the out-going
treasurer signs it as well if s/he is still around .. depends on what the
bank requires and what you have available.

Besides that, an Al-Anon meeting simply says, 'We are a 12 Step group, we
are Al-Anon, Alateen, etc.', and it automatically uses the non-profit
standing all of our groups do in a banking situation as part of
Al-Anon/Alateen worldwide. I've done it myself a number of times for
meetings, district, area, region (when we had them), fundraisers,
convention and OL meetings.

I don't understand the strictness of ASP vs. being a non-profit. It's not
a difficult action. Does ASP also have an attorney? (IMO, the only good
one is a dead one. LOL personal humor that. )
