Hi All,
I have another tech-type question that concerns moderation of the Archives
and recovery member list. Not knowing the workings of the particular
server ASP uses, I would like to know if you have moderators for these two
services: shares and member addresses.
I have been a moderator on several different servers over the years OL and
especially with other groups I have been a member of. Each of those
servers allowed for removing shares or not 'archiving' them in the first
place. Remember individuals can save their own shares or any that come
across the ASP server that might be of interest to them. To me, there is
no good reason to save hundreds of shares be it Al-Anon structure or the
server. With all the f2f comparisons, we do not 'save' what is said at
meetings. Tapes of speakers or other Al-Anon service situations is just
that, service. When we agree to serve, taping might be part of it and that
is up to the individual involved.
As for addresses no longer used or seen as 'participating', servers have
ways to remove such addresses/members. All the ones I have seen in my
service over the years either show up to the moderators as 'bouncing' or
'no longer a viable address' - and that can be for more than one reason.
Keeping all those addresses on the list that are unused due to technical
situations are just taking up space and give incorrect numbers of actual
membership.
Some servers charge for the amount of space used so it is common sense to
clean the listserv on occasion. Same with the space taken up by recovery
shares being kept on the list.

Is this the way ASP's server works?
