ASP Biz-Pals,
re: Agenda, Old Business, Topic #1 - The Archiving of Members' Shares
Background:
In 2006, when A Serenity Place (ASP) changed its ownership from our
founder to the membership of ASP our first List Administrator (LA) had
to make a number of settings on our list management page. One of those
choices asked whether we wanted to archive the shares sent to our list,
yes or no. In this initial setup of the "new era" the LA chose "Yes."
Since then ASP members have had the ability to retrieve emails from
these archives, searching by date, author, or topic. So for the past
dozen years all the ASP emails members have submitted to the ASP list
are available to any members who chooses to peruse them. They are
password protected - each member has to use their password to make
access.
The discussion underway as of the November, 2018 Business Meeting (BM)
is whether or not keeping these archives is something the Business
meeting wants to officially accept. Since the decision to keep archives
of this sort was a simple administrative decision during a period of
transition, no Group Conscience has approved or disapproved of the
practice.
We are currently beginning our second month of discussion of this topic.
In last November's BM, to some members' dissatisfaction, I tried to fit
perhaps too many topics into one month leaving less time for this
important discussion than it merited. This month I propose that we use
our first two weeks to discuss our personal positions on archiving and
see if at the end of that time we have found a unified direction.
Please remember that Al-Anon Principles take precedence over personal
opinions. I ask that you try to express how our principles guide us in
making any decision we might make here. Opinions are certainly welcomed;
please, though, label them as such.
