Hi Business Friends:
I am not in favor of archiving ASP shares. I remember being quite "startled" to learn that is even occurring. I have shared my
story at speaker meetings, knowingly knowing I was being recorded. Otherwise, I trust that my shares are private and confidential within the group. I am aware that someone may choose to print my share on their device, or take notes in a f2f meeting. I have no control over that.
I wonder if people realized their shares were being archived if they would share as willingly, as openly, as honestly? Would they be more cautious how they sound, or restrict what they say? I do not know. I do know that this program has helped me immensely by hearing and listening to all the ESH in these rooms - f2f and ASP.
Archived shares are not CAL. CAL includes shares from people with the express knowledge and permission they will be printed and become available to anyone who wants to read them.
At my f2f meeting, a fairly new member brought up the fact that our sign-in sheets had been saved for several years. They include our first name, phone number, whether or not we have a sponsor or are willing to sponsor, home group, and how we are feeling today. While it seems to be innocuous information, this member was very bothered by the fact the information had been gathered for years. Some expressed opinions about "paranoia" and others didn't care at all. Some said they liked to look back and see how they were feeling, or to find the date they came into the rooms. Bottom line, after much discussion over a few weeks, a group conscience made the decision to shred the records, keeping future sign-in sheets for 3 months only.
My opinion is there is no valid reason to archive personal shares of members of an Al-Anon group.
Hugs, Linda
