It seems to me that this was a well intentioned or possibly an unconscious
"click the box because we can" decision.  We have a saying on a poster at
my work that says none of us is a smart as all of us.  So often I have had
GREAT ideas that with more info, weren't so great.  I think this is like
that.  Had there been a discussion to decide whether to check the box or
not, I believe that the group would have come to consensus to leave it
unchecked.

For all the reasons stated so eloquently, my wish is to purge the archived
shares and uncheck the box.
