Biz-Pals,
Warranty 3 calls on us to reach our decisions "...by discussion vote and
whenever possible by unanimity."
I've been taking good notes on our meeting and now believe the
following:
~ The Substantial Unanimity I'd noted for ridding ASP of past and future
personal share archiving, and which resulted in the current seconded
motion on the floor, has slipped below the 2/3rds minimum due to at
least one changed mind.
~ At least 9 Business Meeting members have restated that their
understanding and intent was to eliminate both past archives and future
archiving.
It appears to me that 1) the current motion on the floor can not pass
with a 2/3rds approval as required. Equally, it appears to me that 2)
the proposed altered amendment does not reflect a sufficient percentage
of this committee's expressed will to form substantial unanimity or pass
either.
Back to Warranty 3 - Sometimes in the midst of business meetings it
seems that reaching the 2/3rds substantial unanimity level is the goal;
gather at least enough support to get us over the top of the minimum
requirements to proceed (to win!) Warranty 3 reminds us, however, to
reach farther whenever we can toward full Unanimity.
...And we do have, at least it appears to me we have, full Unanimity on
at least one point of the current motion: That ASP should stop archiving
personal recovery shares from now on. This leads me to the following
thought train which tracks through a few parliamentary obstacles:
- We have a seconded motion on the floor; further motions are out of
order until some act removes it.
- Because we are in the parliamentary phase the maker of the motion on
the floor can act to remove it by withdrawing her motion.

The Business Meeting Chair proposes:
1) Diane M. withdraws her motion.
2) A simple motion which stops future archiving of personal recovery
shares is drafted, made, and seconded.
3) Because our past discussions have revealed this point of unanimity
the Chair could announce a foreshortened period for discussion of the
new motion which would allow the BM to have a full 7-day polling period
before the end of the January Business Meeting.
Now, some new information:
I have until today thought that flipping that archiving switch from
'yes' to 'no' ended all archiving past and future. I have reached out to
Esosoft and found this morning that, no, making the switch would only
stop future archiving. Neither would it affect the archiving of business
share archiving, etc. Only email addressed to asp at asp-afg.org would be
unrecorded. Past archived personal shares would remain.

The Chair therefore suggests a simpler motion than the alternative
suggested by Kim and Steve:
"ASP is to discontinue archiving personal recovery shares as of February
1, 2019." [...or something which reflects this as simply.]

Diane, if you are willing to withdraw your motion we can recognize a
motion which states the simplicity of our current Unanimity.
In service,
Jerry H., acting BM Chair
