Anne O. asked:
. 1) What does service mean to you? *BJ: Al-Anon service to me
means a wonderful and healthy way to walk this road of recovery.*
. 2) What does service mean to the health of our group? *BJ:
Al-Anon groups have many opportunities for members to be of service. It is
the basic to positive health for any *group, *regardless of size or
location.*
. 3) And what keeps you from volunteering to serve on the Steering
Committee and in the Secretary and Treasurer positions that remain open?
BJ: *I am currently involved in service to another OL email Al-Anon group
and on the f2f level as well. ASP has enough members that it seems, given
the knowledge of service, there are enough members to fill the empty
spaces. *
4) I'd also like to hear from all of you on how email communication may
hinder the open dialogue and discussions so vital to reasoning things out
and reaching consensus.
*BJ: A large group of OL Al-Anon members worldwide discussed this subject
at length years ago when OL groups were in the process of being accepted by
WSO as bona fide Al-Anon meetings, albeit supplemental to f2f.*
*As with many things people do, email is easier for some, harder for
others. It depends on the person and that is their decision to make.
There are now telephone meetings, conference calls, message boards, chat
rooms as well as f2f on many levels, etc. Email should not present any
more of a problem to some than speaking f2f*
*does to others. It is part of a learning process.*
