What does service mean to me?
Service was an important piece of my recovery. When I first came to alanaon a wise member asked me to chair a meeting. Wow. I grew so much from that day. It doesn’t have to be big and demonstrative. I do like the personal part of service. Going up to a newcomer after the meeting, getting hugs, lunch. I have served as literature chair, secretary, treasurer, I have even started a meeting, chaired many meetings, etc. Service was a big part for many years.

What does service mean to the health of our group?
Having a GR to represent and report back to the group is an indicator of a healthy group. Service needs to be balanced among members. Choosing a home group and participating in group conscious meetings, having different members lead meetings keeps out meeting balanced in program and keeps us with principles above personalities. I also like to see fresh ideas, etc from new eyes/healing hearts.

What keeps me from volunteering to serve on ASP?
My first 15 years in the program I was very active in service. I really love to see our newcomers step up and become involved. Asp is not the most comfortable meeting for me. I find sharing through emails and not seeing/hugging live folks a little isolating to me. I love that I can read a share anytime I want and I will most likely chair here again, but I do not really want to add anymore responsibilities to my life at this time.
