List Administrator Report - Nov. 2019

It has sadly become routine that I must handle both List Administrator
and Secretary duties. Much more than I would accept given a choice.
However, ASP's structure specifies that the LA is to perform the
Secretary duties when a secretary is unavailable. I encourage all who
have given a minimum of one year of service to ASP to give serious
thought to standing for ASP Secretary or Treasurer positions.

September and October chores were fairly usual for ASP's current
circumstances. The topic meetings remain steadfast offering a good mix
of thoughtful topics each day.

Every day I respond to emails from members and process the emails which
are put on administrative hold. All together this takes about 30
sometimes 40 hours a month.

~ The most common topic for emails from members is not knowing how to
unsubscribe themselves. Rather than have to educate each on how to do it
which would be quite time consuming and only partially effective I take
their email addresses and unsubscribe them myself. Much quicker and 100%
effective.

~ Those emails which were put on administrative hold are almost
exclusively because members use a Reply All function to address their
emails to the group instead of using asp at asp-afg.org as required.

~ Every week I get a regular smattering of emails asking why their ASP
emails have stopped. Almost always it's because their carriers' or
computers' settings shunt ASP traffic into their spam file. We send out
every email to nearly 3,000 addresses. Some settings recognize this as
probable spam and file ASP emails that way. The fix is in the hands of
either the member, the carrier, or both.

~ Because we have so many emails each day there's an increase in members
who are requesting they receive emails in digest form. ASP does not
offer a digest option.

I did post an open letter to past ASP trusted servants as suggested
noting the need for a Secretary and Treasurer and asking for their
attendance at the Business Meeting.

In service,

Jerry H., LA
