Good Morning Margaret,
I am ASP's Greeter chair. I would like to address a portion of question #3.
We got a new set of Greeter volunteers in May and June of this year so it is very possible that you may indeed have slipped through the cracks. Newcomers should receive 3 separate emails. The first will let them know that they are either in the process of being subscribed or that we need a little more Tradition 3 information from them before they can be subscribed. If we are subscribing them, the individual greeter sends the first email to the new member. That email tells them that subscription is in progress, that they will be getting a detailed email from the List Administrator with a lot of useful information and also sends them to the members site so that they can start reviewing information. We send them to this page. http://asp-afg.org/members. That first email is signed by the greeter and gives the newcomer their first personal contact. We do try to send this several hours or even a day or more before the meeting emails begin. Then comes the system generated email from the server (List Administrator) when the subscription is complete and finally, the greeter that welcomed them initially, will send an introduction/welcome to the general meeting with the new member's name and email address.
The Newcomer support inquiry you posed has been a separate topic in business meetings of the past. Very complicated, because we have two types of newcomers, those that are new to ASP only and those that are new to ASP and to Al-Anon, there have been ideas floated but no decisions made. Right now we are focused on the vacant service positions. Without volunteers for service we can't conduct the business of ASP. Business meeting agendas are here. http://asp-afg.org/members/business-meeting-agenda/
Yours in Service,
Anne

Subject: [Businessmtg] November Business Meeting
Greetings November Business Meeting participants and thank you for your Service.
I have been attending ASP for about 4 months. I am a 20+ year grateful member of Al-Anon. I have been involved in f2f Service at the Group and District levels. I attended the ASP July Business meeting but abstained from voting because of my limited knowledge of the issues and chose not to attend the September Meeting.
These issues may have been addressed in the past but as a relative newcomer to ASP, I have some questions:
1. Why are most of the daily chairs not listed as attending this or July business meeting?
2. In f2f meetings that I have attended, business matters and Service needs are announced frequently. In depth discussion and voting is usually left for business meetings but members, including newcomers, are being made aware of the existence and needs of Service. Why are there no such announcements in the regular meetings on ASP? Why has Service not been addressed in a Daily Topic discussion in the last 4 months?
3. I’m not exactly clear on procedures used in welcoming newcomers. On the member’s webpage it looks like there is an information and greeting email sent to let folks know that they have been added to the group. I may have received one of these but in the confusion of entering the email meeting format, I lost it and have no memory of its content. Does the greeting procedure include any additional contact? Again, if it does, I may have lost it in my own confusion but I am not aware of receiving any follow-up. My point is, as a long time Al-Anon member with a workable knowledge of email, I appear to have slipped through the cracks. Is anything being actively done to educate newcomers on the workings of our fellowship in general and ASP in particular?
Thanks for considering my questions. I look forward to receiving your insights.
Margaret
