Hi all, Anna here again. I know before it was mentioned that the reasons ASP has the requirements for service is because it was voted on. Could we do another vote? Are these types of things voted on often?
Thankfully Beverly has volunteered, but we still have positions to fill. If positions aren’t rotated it makes it seem like we’re allowing some to be “in charge” or it looks like we’re letting only a few serve. That’s when it gets dangerous. I’ve been here going on a year, but in al - Anon almost 2 years and I find it strange the same people continue to serve. Why aren’t the vacant positions not announced on the main list monthly, at least? If people don’t know there’s an urgency to fill positions they can’t do anything about it. But when we continue to make it so hard for them to be filled they seem more like restrictions then requirements.
Also, back to the conversation about the Listkeeper putting in 30-40 hours. This doesn’t make sense to me because people post weekly about needing to be removed and not being able to get in touch with the Listkeeper.
Is there a way someone could put together an ad hoc committee and maybe survey throughout the group what members feel the biggest issues are? I’ve heard greeters not being able to provide answers to questions for newcomers (this also happened to me), not understanding how things work, sponsor issues, and then of course, the service aspect. Maybe if we encourage members to share they’ll get more involved in business meetings. It also might be a good idea to send out a bi monthly reminder of the business meetings. That way people are notified several times. You can’t ignore what’s in your face constantly.
What if we also put together an “ASP Guide” or something to that effect, that gets sent out weekly highlighting how to share, how topics work, literature, sponsorship and how it works, and business meetings. This would definitely take away a lot of the chaos. I email every newcomer and I would say out of 15 probably 10 write me back and ask one of the above questions.
Just my thoughts.
Anna
