Hi ASPers,

I have been a member here for 3-4 years now. I am also a member (business
chair/CMA) for another long time OL email group and have been a very active
f2f member in all stages of Al-Anon for over 40 years. Initially I did
volunteer for an open ASP service position but was turned down because I
was one day shy of the required year. u

Personally, from what I have observed since that time, the length of time
required for some service jobs here may be too long and the requirements
for any or all service jobs may be too 'strict', seemingly written in
stone. To me that is possibly one reason ASP is in the position with lack
of service volunteers that it is now.

How about cutting down on the number of weekly meetings? Revising the
length(s) of membership required for some service jobs. Revising the
treasury situation? ... just to name a few.

Service in one f2f situation counts toward service in other meetings in the
f2f world. Years ago many of us long time members of Al-Anon discussed
this angle (plus others in f2f groups) and how they would fit into OL
meetings making the OL meetings more than just supplemental to f2f
meetings. We turned the results of those international discussions in to
the WSO to be utilized by their policy committees and service people
there.

Maybe a discussion similar to what we had in those days needs to take
place in ASP business meetings. Apparently doing the same old things over
and over and not making headway is not working. It could be time for some
basic to the system changes. Al-Anon meetings do place principles above
personalities and our leaders are but trusted servants, they do not govern.

In service,
BJ
