Hi everyone, I wanted to get a clear understanding of everything before I chimed in. 

I notice a lot of demands of we *have* to get others involved, even now wanting to mention business on the main list with everyone. Not everyone is here for business. When I first joined I know I wasn’t. And some people may be here 25+ years and simply not want to participate in business for whatever reason. 

I understand that to make a group flourish you have to have service, I totally get that. But some people don’t want to. We can not force them. 

It seems we have some people who’d be more then happy to participate (myself), but they don’t have enough time. And others who do that don’t want to. So has anyone thought of changing this? I know we voted last month, but still. I think more could be done.

I am not sure how emergency decisions are made (I would assume by steering committee only?) but has anyone ever thought to make an emergency decision that until we have people step up that have the proper time we will allow those who don’t meet exact criteria to help out? 

You have to make a choice at the end of the day : keep complaining at every business meeting getting no results, let the group fold, or do something about it. 

I also think it’s important to keep in mind what our CAL says : supporting our groups doesn’t just mean financially, it means with service as well. Some groups fold. Not that I want that to happen at all, I sure don’t. But it looks like to me either we make some changes or it doesn’t look good.

Another thing is the 3 years for the steering committee, 1 year is plenty. We do not govern, and are supposed to rotate (often). 6 months to a year is enough. Perhaps people don’t want to be locked in that long? I know I wouldn’t.
