[Businessmtg] List Administrator's Report

Hi Anna,

You have really piqued my interest with "I have probably 2-3 newcomers write me daily with these questions."

Besides being an Al-Anon, I'm an engineer with an MBA and retired from the military, so anal retentive analysis is part of my DNA. Per Anne O's report, we had 2,859 new members join ASP in 2019. That's 7.83 new folks/day on average. If you have 2-3 of them asking you questions daily, that's roughly a third of our new members asking you what's up. Wow. I'm flabbergasted that we have that many new members reaching out to a single member with their questions. Which begs the question why? What are we doing that results in new member questions not being sent to our trusted servants, and what are you doing that attracts those questions instead?

Please don't take offense. I'm just trying to understand what's going on and why. We can't solve problems without knowing that.

As for your suggestion that the greeters send an email to our new members, I believe they do. I know they used to under our old new member process, and the content of that letter was posted on the ASP website in the Documents section. However, since said "Greeter Letter" is no longer posted on the website, I'll defer to Anne O. is our Greeter Chair for the answer to what the Greeters do send to the new member.

What I do know for certain is that the server automatically sends a detailed "How to" email to every new member when they are subscribed to ASP. Again, this letter used to be posted on the ASP website for reference, but it too seems to be missing in action. I'll take this opportunity to ask Anne K. to post that on the website at her earliest convenience (Anne - a PDF is on its way). I should point out that the content of that letter belongs to the List Administrator - not any of us. Additionally, to avoid looking like I'm throwing Jerry under the bus, I'll also point out that the Welcome Letter from the List Administrator is almost identical to what I sent out decades ago when I started ASP, and every List Administrator has done since.

Love and SERENITY,
Steve

As I’ve mentioned in the last few business meetings, members seem to have no clue how the group works when they join. They post questions inquiring about shares, reply all feature, etc. Could we not come up with something to send to newcomers explaining where to find this info? I have probably 2-3 newcomers write me daily with these questions, and it only takes a second to respond. If our greeters had something all they needed to do was copy/paste it in the welcome email, that shouldn’t be hard to do. It may not fix the probably completely, but might help some. Especially with the volume of “where do I share? How do I share? Do you guys have a sponsor list? Etc.” on the al - Anon list.

Anna RC.
