Who will be responsible for adding the items? Also, would they have to be approved? It seems even if an opinion isn’t the same or favored by a select few in the meetings they’re automatically sent an essay on why it wouldn’t work, or why it didn’t 10+ years ago. Or will it be whatever is added to the agenda will automatically be discussed? Will it be priority in terms of order of discussion?
I’ve been apart of the business meetings here for probably 9 months or so now, and this is only the second time we’ve actually discussed more then positions not being filled. Before, we spent an entire month “talking” about not having the positions filled, and what we could do. Meanwhile, we might’ve had 2 or 3 more things we could’ve focused on and got things accomplished. Will it be the same way? I know I wouldn’t been too keen on submitting items thinking we would discuss for them to just be overlooked or put to the side. I do understand different time zones, this being online, we would never get everything accomplished in one meeting. But people may not want to bring a topic up for discussion and then have to wait months.
I appreciate the efforts of everyone that does service here at ASP, whether it’s the Steering Committee, daily chairs, or members only sharing occasionally. Everyone is important and matters. That’s the whole point of these meetings, to hear everyone out, both majority and minority. But when we don’t allow more then one member to share an opinion we disagree with, and within an hour we've sent multiple reasons why this or that won’t work - that’s called “governing”, and is the opposite of what we do in al - Anon. I fear if members submit topics and they’re turned down that’s going to be the message we send.
So I guess my question in simple terms is : would any topic by any member be automatically added to the agenda? This poses several more questions : what if it’s already been discussed? Voted on? How will the person know? Who’s going to be responsible for all of this communication?
Regards,
Anna RC.
