Hi all.

Thank you for your service.

A couple things...

1. Afg's ought to be autonomous.

2. There are no 'musts' in Alanon.

3. The only qualification for service, is the desire to serve.

That being said...

1. ASP is unique in having a steeper learning curve due to the technical
component and of course, ASP is autonomous.

2. There is currently a suggested guideline, (not a must) that a chair have
at least 6 months in ASP, before becoming a chair.

3. Occasionally it may happen that actively participating ASP members who
demonstrate understanding of the ASP process but with less than 6 months
ASP time will volunteer to serve as chair. And, when a vacancy needs to be
filled, they may be chosen by their "willingness to serve", on a case by
case basis. Because there are no musts, in Alanon.

As I understand it, this is how it's been handled, being true to Alanon and
a group conscience.

I think flexible guidelines  are sound and wise. They provide a framework
but leave room for growth, exception and ammendment.
