The next week will be available to ask Mary questions. This Q&A period will
end on Wednesday, May 20 at 9:00 PM Pacific time.

Al-Anon Resume for Steering Committee at ASP

Date: 3-15-2020

Name: Mary Abbott

Email Address maryaonlinealanon at gmail.com, mabbott at ku.edu,

Service Position in ASP you are available for: treasurer

Al-Anon Birthday: March Years: 36 off and on

ASP Birthday: March Years: 3

One year's participation in ASP is a prerequisite to serving as an officer
of ASP. Participation may take many forms, but merely having one's email
address on the ASP server is not participation.

Service Positions held in Al-Anon:

A member of ASP must have served ASP in some other service capacity for 1
year in addition to any other minimum qualifications for ASP Officers.

Face-to-Face Al-Anon: literature person, regularly attended meetings,
regularly chaired general and beginner meetings, alternate group
representative

ASP: I have been a greeter since May of 2019. I share at meetings and I
attended most business meetings.

Online Al-Anon other than ASP: none

Members of Al-Anon who are also members of AA are not eligible to serve as
officers of ASP or on the Steering Committee

Are you a member of AA? no

Why would you like to serve ASP in this position?

There appears to be a great need to fill critical executive committee
vacancies. I think of the vacancies I see, treasurer is the position that
would best fit my travel and work schedule.

Over the decades, I have served on many non-profits boards and held every
steering/executive committee position, including treasurer. I believe that I
can serve as ASP treasurer and will find the time to competently complete
the treasurer tasks.

What changes would you like to see in ASP?

            In general:

Work to get more attending the business meeting.

Work to get new members who qualify to take entry level service positions
like greeter and topic chair.

Notices in daily meeting (perhaps a week before) about signing up to attend
the business meetings.

Notices in the daily meeting of current vacancies with a sentence or two
about the requirements for holding those positions.

Specifically regarding this service position:

I think have a designated treasure will help increase the current available
funds. I'm sure for Steve that this would be a welcome change.

What changes do you NOT want to see occur at ASP?

I don't want to see the daily feed change. I think that it is quite valuable
to ASP members, including me.

In what way do you feel you participate or contribute to the group?

I share relatively often at ASP. From most of my shares, I receive responses
about how my share was helpful to others.

How do you feel about the current guidelines at ASP?

I followed the link and read the guidelines again. I don't have a problem
with the current ASP guidelines. They are quite standard Al-Anon guidelines.

Do you have technical or other experience that you feel is significant for
this position?

I'm quite responsible and excel at completing tasks. Due to my disability of
dyslexia, I'm also quite the stickler for checking and re-checking the work
that I do.

Describe your concept of how much time you have available to serve ASP and
how accessible you are to the other members of the Steering Committee and
the general membership of ASP.

Whatever job I volunteer to do, I always find the time to complete tasks and
to fully participate. I commit to doing the same with ASP service.

Anything else that you would like to say . . .

In non-profits, I've most always found the individuals to be dedicated
people doing the best job they know how to do. I believe that to be true at
ASP. I am a firm believer that people who are dedicated to a mission can
find a way to get-along and make the organization an attractive entity to be
part of. If asked to serve as treasurer, I would do my best to carry out the
duties of the treasurer and to also become a contributing member to the
executive committee.
