Thanks Lynne and Margaret!
Yes, there was a lot of information to process. More than a lot, really. In Al-Anon it's so important that our members make an informed group conscience, and that requires information. Since very few members have any experience with the greater Al-Anon service structure, trying to condense a 242-page Service Manual along with the history of electronic meetings in general, and ASP in particular into a 2-minute news bite is not possible.
The flip side of the problem as I see it, is that time is of the essence. Time flies and the new Area's need for financial support will be here sooner than you know it. I was an Al-Anon Area Treasurer for 3 years, so I'm personally familiar with the need to budget and devote funds for our Delegate and other trusted servants. My Area had an annual budget of about $84,000 in 1999. I don't know what the Virtual Areas budget will be, but it will probably be more than what it takes to operate ASP.
If ASP is going to do its part in supporting the new Area, I believe that we need to make that decision sooner rather than later.
Hugs,
Steve

Thank you Steve for your thorough explanation. And thank you to the steering committee for your service to the group!

I have never gone to a F2F meeting, so this was all new to me. After reading all of the emails, my input is that I agree that the simplest way forward is for ASP to adopt the GR duties and responsibilities described in the service manual as the duties and responsibilities of our new GR.

Regarding the finances, I fully support suspending donations to the WSO until we have decided a new donation plan taking into account the new virtual area. And i definitely support making a commitment to financially supporting the new virtual area!

I also support the donation formula of 10% to the WSO and 90% to the virtual area (because there is no district - yet). This could be changed in the future once the virtual area is up and running and it is seen how well supported it is. I thought Steve made a good point that many virtual meetings might not have a robust tradition 7 like ASP does, so this seems like a good way to start.

Thanks for letting me give my input.

Hugs,
Lynne
