Hi Linda,

 

I think that some are a bit fearful of the techie skills needed to do the
web master work.  OTOH, I think there are some that are afraid of
overwhelming a Secretary with work, even though the web master work is only
occasional and not time consuming even then.  Yes, many seem to assume that
it is a difficult responsibility - little could be further from the truth.  

 

Personally, I would be all for simply rolling the Web Master duties into the
Secretary, but that's not the recommendation of the entire Steering
Committee.

 

As for the question of whether the Secretary will be required to appoint an
assistant, or that it will be optional?

 

Looking at the current wording I posted on the comparison web page
(https://tinyurl.com/j3557b7s) it looks like it could be interpreted either
way.  While it is a declarative statement that the Secretary appoints the
Recording Secretary, it does not say "shall" nor does it say "may".  I would
suggest that when we get to the final wording of the new motion, perhaps in
September, that we make it clear one way or the other.

In that regard, I was just wondering since it was the 'fear' of having super
techie skills, if that will be something encouraged, or if it will be
strictly up to the secretary how/who/when/if he or she wants.  I don't have
a strong opinion at this time, more curiosity.  I know the assumption that
it is a difficult responsibility.
