Good morning, everyone.

Thank you for your question, Betsy C. "Kelley, I'm wondering if you could
talk a bit about the Traditions or Concepts will be most meaningful to you
as you take on this job?"

I feel very strongly that all the traditions and concepts will be of
valuable guidance if I am elected to serve in the capacity of chairing the
Greeters committee.

One tradition that is near and dear to my heart, especially as a greeter,
is Tradition 5: Each Al-Anon Family group has but one purpose: to help
families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the twelve steps of AA
ourselves, by encouraging and understanding the alcoholic relatives and by
welcoming and giving comfort to the families of alcoholics.

Last year, when Anne requested volunteers to join the committee, I
immediately raised my hand to serve as I felt compelled to be of service in
welcoming and providing comfort to fellow relatives of alcoholics into our
group. My motivation stems from remembering how I felt when I researched
this group as someone who was at her wits end, absolutely shattered and
devastated by this disease, and seeking help. When I turned to this group
and with shaking fingers, typed in that my husband is an alcoholic, I was
absolutely filled with fear, guilt, despartion, shame, you name it. I
received a reply right away that comforted me and let me know I was not
alone.

That feeling has stayed with me over the course of the last three years of
being a part of this group. It felt like a natural progression in my
program and desire to continue to serve to submit my resume for the Greeter
Chair position. As Concept 4 states: Participation is the key to harmony.
Serving as a committee member has truly helped me in my journey to
wellness. So much so, that I would very much like to help other volunteers
interested in joining the committee to be of service to them as they
continue their own program in opening themselves up to service work.

Another tradition that is quite meaningful to me as it relates to this
position is
Tradition 2: For our purpose there is but one authority—a loving God as
He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted
servants—they do not govern.

My goal is to be a trusted servant for the applicants, volunteers, Steering
Committee members and general members of our group in following the
Concepts and Traditions of this group; thereby placing principles above
personalities.

I look forward to answering any other questions. Have a good day.
Kelley
